Welcome to my front porch!

Hi! I'm Donna! I grew up sitting on the front porch drinking iced tea and spending time with friends and family. Welcome to my front porch. Pull up a comfy chair, grab a glass of tea, sit back, relax and ENJOY!!!

A Mom's Valentine's Day

The Country Boy as he is normally seen.
It used to be my Valentine's Days were spent with the Country Boy out at a nice restaurant for an intimate dinner. After dinner we would find something romantic to do. Since we are both movie buffs, we would normally watch a coupley (The Country Boy is rubbing off on me. I'm making up words.) type movie or something similar. Sometimes we would just return home to cuddle up on the couch and watch our favorite tv shows. The Country Boy is not an overly romantic type guy, but he has his moments.

A rare sight. The Country Boy wearing a tie.
I do remember a couple of Valentine's Days when he managed to pull a fast one on me. Our first Valentine's Day he bought all my favorite candies, cleaned the house and when I came home my bed was covered in all the candy and yellow roses. Another year he surprised me with a weekend getaway to a ritzy hotel and tickets to a comedy show after reserving the same table we ate at when he proposed. Last year, he brought me my favorite dessert from the my favorite local bakery. All these things are made even more sweet and romantic because I can never predict when he will do it again.
The Happy Couple.

The pictures I have posted are of our last really romantic getaway. He took me to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for a long weekend. We had a blast just walking around all the shops holding hands and being a couple without our three rugrats hanging around asking a more questions than any two parents could ever possibly answer. We love the terrible threesome, but it is great to be reminded that we were couple first and parents second. Those moments are few and far between however.

My Valentine's Days nowadays are spent elbow deep in valentine's, mail boxes for said valentine's and cupcakes for Valentine's Day parties. This year is no different, the migraine I have suffered all day long notwithstanding. So, while the Country Boy took the oldest rugrat and our only boy off to basketball practice this evening, leaving me with the youngest two rugrats, our girls, to make treats for their class parties and my office's luncheon. Said treats are made and ready and I am happily sitting on the couch waiting for my next dose of Imitrex.

Here's hoping you have a great Valentine's Day, no matter how you choose to spend it!

Work

In physics, a force is said to do work when it acts on a body, and there is a displacement of the point of application in the direction of the force.

Say what? LOL!

Well physics notwithstanding,  I wish I could spend my days at home on pinterest, blogging and creating beautifulness. Alas, that just is not in the cards for this sassy southern girl.

However, I must say I work with some fabulous people. I am trying to coerce them into joining me in my quest for a beautiful bod. Just the thought makes me tired and sore. So while i may not be able to stay home and do as my heart desires, I am not alone in my work misery.

Stay tuned because my lovely ladies and I just may be posting our before pics in the not so distant future.

Long time no post

It has been forever since I even looked at this blog much less posted on it. However with the rugrats getting older and my own college graduation creeping ever closer (come on May) I have to admit I am enjoying having some extra time on my hands. Lately I have found some really productive and beautiful uses for that extra wee bit of time.

Use number one…

Catching up on the blogs I loved so much prior to life taking over, well my life. LOL! I haven’t had the time for blogging in recent years so I am really tickled to catch up with all I have missed in blogland. Two of my favorites are The Nesting Place and A Soft Place to Land.

Use number two…

Discovering new blogs which the country boy husband of mine has come to realize he has a weird love/hate reaction to. They include Ana White, Shanty-2-Chic and More Like Home. These last three are the ones which have rekindled my love for blogging and sparked a new hobby which is why I have decided to come back to The Southern Sass.

I have purchased the tools. My favorites are...

and my Kreg Jig® R3.

I have also purchased nails, screws, wood conditioner and stain. Dark Walnut by Minwax is what I have used so far, but the other day I picked up the same color only in Rustoleum, so we will see.

For paint I always gravitate towards Olympic One at Lowe’s. However, we now have a Sherwin Williams store in town and I will definitely be giving them a looksee.

So with all these new play pretties, I will begin sharing all my fun new projects. The first three will be just a brief description and a couple of pictures because I just didn’t think to share my stories and experiences until that darling country boy of mine suggested I do so. I promise to fix the error of my ways.

Hope to see you on my front porch.
